quote of the day

I don't own a cell phone or a pager. I just hang around everyone I know, all the time. If someone wants to get a hold of me, they just say 'Mitch,' and I say 'what?' and turn my head slightly.

beautiful prose

I've just recently discovered Cormac McCarthy. His newest book, The Road, despite the setting of atomic-holocaust America, has hidden nuggets of pure joy amidst the abiding sadness and brutality of a dying world. Here's an example:

once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. you could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. they smelled of moss in your hand. polished and muscular and torsional. on their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. maps and mazes. of a thing which could not be put back. not be made right again. in the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery*

*in deference to the authors omission of quotation marks i have also abstained (they're really not necessary, are they? it makes for much cleaner reading, in my opinion)

two strange pics

1. For those of you who watch "Lost," Sawyer apparently did a bit of subtle advertising for my company's biggest website, (unfortunately, the jacket kind of obscures the logo).

2. My friend Ryan made an animated gif of Cori & I demonstrating the joys of processed cheese at the Cheeseathon.

moose can be very dangerous...

My Alaskan friend sent me this article about a moose attacking a helicopter!
