organic vs. sustainability

I just read an informative little article about buying organic. Here's an excerpt:

"If you go into a store that sells a lot of organic produce, they'll have organic apples from New Zealand. Those products meet the letter of the organic standards, no question. But they don't meet the spirit of those standards. The original idea was to produce foods sustainably, so you wouldn't be burning fossil fuels to bring apples from New Zealand when you can get plenty of perfectly fine apples in the U.S. when they're in season. You have to decide as a consumer what's more important to you: organic or local?"

And, if organics don't float your boat, here's something completely different:

If you're looking for a new way to travel, how about a cargo ship?
(Although, I must say, $100 per night sounds pricey to me. Then again, I've never been on a cruise ship.)
